Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne mugged in Naples, then told 'score a goal for us against Fiorentina'

Italian striker and his wife forced to hand over cash and jewellery after being held up at gunpoint

An Italian football player became the latest high-profile victim of lawlessness in Naples when he and his wife were held up at gunpoint and robbed of jewellery, watches and cash.
Lorenzo Insigne, who plays for Napoli FC and the Italian national team, was driving with his wife, Genoveffa “Jenny” Darone, when they were held up in the Vomero district of the city.
A pair of robbers on a motorcycle pulled up next to their Mercedes at a set of traffic lights and threatened them with a pistol.

The raiders snatched a Rolex watch, a diamond bracelet and 800 euros in cash.
They knew exactly who their victim was - before fleeing, one of them reportedly told the star player: “Score a goal for us on Monday against Fiorentina.”

The attack happened shortly before midnight on Saturday when Mr Insigne and his wife were out on the town with a pair of friends.
“Lorenzo is in shock but at least they didn’t have their children with them,” said Antonio Ottaiano, his agent. “It was a bad experience but with football and the help of his friends, he’ll get over it.”
Gianni Lettieri, a businessman and a candidate for mayor of Naples in elections in the spring, wrote on Facebook: “Naples is out of control. The city is in the hands of organised crime.”
Mr Insigne is the latest of several football players to have been robbed or threatened while playing for Napoli FC.
In 2013 Valon Behrami, a Swiss midfielder who now plays for Watford, was held up and had a Hublot watch worth £5,000 stolen.

In the same year, Marek Hamsik, a Slovakian player and the team’s captain, was attacked while driving his BMW near the city’s stadium, with robbers stealing his Rolex.
The wives and girlfriends of players have also been specifically targeted in Naples by local criminals, with several going through traumatic muggings or robberies.

Kuwait mosque bomb

Kuwait mosque bombers swears allegiance to Isil in posthumous audio message

A voice recording circulated by supporters of the extremist group purports to be the last statement by the suicide bomber who killed 27 Shia Muslims in a Kuwait mosque last week

Imam Sadiq Mosque following a blast in al-Sawaber, Kuwait City

The Saudi bomber who blew himself up in a mosque in Kuwait killing dozens of worshippers recorded a statement before his death swearing allegiance toAbu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).
The audio message, accompanied by two still photos was posted online by pro-Isil Twitter accounts after Fahd Suliman Abdul-Muhsen al-Qabaa killed at least 27 members of the mosque's Shia Muslim congregation last week.
In the message the speaker addresses Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, telling him to "be patient and swear to God that we are with you".
He then vows to pursue jihad – holy war – against his enemies and especially Shia Muslims in Kuwait, saying they can expect revenge for what he terms insulting Islam.
He threatens: "We are on the lookout for you."

Saudi national Fahd Suliman Abdul-Muhsen al-Qabaa carried out Friday's atrocity in a Kuwait mosque
A caption below the clip calls the bomber a "soldier of the caliphate" and identifies him by the nom de guerre of Abu Suleiman al-Muwahhed.
The authenticity of the audio message could not be immediately independently verified, but analysts said the message was being treated as legitimate by Isil supporters.
Charlie Winter, senior researcher at the Quilliam think tank said: "It is making the rounds among [Isil supporters] as any other official propaganda does, and posthumous “wills” like these are not unprecedented."
The audio message came as Saudi authorities said there was nothing documented in Qabaa's past indicating that he planned to carry out a terrorist attack.
Saudi Arabia's interior ministry said the bomber, a man in his early twenties, had no record with security forces or any background indicating terrorist activities. It confirmed he left the Kingdom on Thursday bound for Bahrain.
Bahrain's interior ministry said Qabaa arrived in that island nation on a Gulf Air flight from the Saudi capital, Riyadh, at 10.40pm of the same day. He remained in transit for two and a half hours before boarding a connecting flight to Kuwait.

Just two hours after he landed, Qabaa blew himself up in a Shia mosque in Kuwait City, killing 27 people, and wounding more than 200 others.
The blast – which struck within hours of deadly attacks in Tunisia and France – has rattled largely stable Kuwait.
The small, oil-rich country, ruled by a Sunni monarchy and with a sizeable Shia minority, has mostly avoided the sectarian violence rocking other parts of the region.
Isil consider Shia to be heretics, and the war in Syria, which has further polarised Shia and Sunni Muslims has only worsened the sectarian enmity.
Prior to the audio message Isil's Najd Province offshoot had claimed responsibility for the Kuwait mosque attack. It has also claimed two attacks on Shia mosques in Saudi Arabia in late May.

Park's authoritarian style deepens political

Park's authoritarian style deepens political divisions, raises approval ratings

KOICHI KATO, Nikkei staff writer
SEOUL -- Since taking office in February 2013, South Korean President Park Geun-hye has made unilateral decisions on a number of divisive issues. Despite a continued decline in her approval ratings, her decisiveness has helped recover popular support in recent months.
However, her rigid adherence to her own principles has invited a wave of criticisms from opposition lawmakers, further widening divisions in South Korean society.
The upcoming general elections in April will likely serve as a litmus test for Park's political performance.
On Feb. 16, Park met with Kim Jong-in, chairman of the emergency committee for the Minjoo Party of Korea, in a room in South Korea's National Assembly before she was to deliver a speech. Kim asked her to explain her sudden decision to suspend operations at the jointly-run Kaesong industrial complex in North Korea. "You made the decision suddenly. So you need to explain the reasons in detail," he was quoted as telling her.
He is currently head of the largest opposition party, but Kim once served as one of Park's top policy aides in her presidential campaign back in 2012. He formulated what he calls economic democratization -- a campaign pledge aimed at revamping the country's economic structure, which focuses heavily on big conglomerates -- and contributed to her election victory.
But later, they disagreed on economic policies, and Kim defected from ruling party. In a meeting with owners of small and midsize businesses on Feb. 21, Kim criticized Park for favoring large companies just as in the past, adding that "this will make it impossible [to implement economic democratization]."
Unilateral decision-maker
In recent months, Park has made decisions on a number of important issues, ranging from a government-mandated history textbook and an agreement on the wartime "comfort women" issue with Japan to the closing of the Kaesong industrial complex. Even though these are all highly contentious issues, she does not appear to have made enough efforts to coordinate opinions among relevant parties beforehand. The opposition camp has countered her moves, saying she made the decisions unilaterally.
In a parliamentary session on Tuesday, the Minjoo Party members engaged in a filibuster in a bid to block the passage of an anti-terrorism bill proposed by the government and the ruling Saenuri Party. One female lawmaker made a speech that lasted for more than 10 hours, raising concerns that the bill could be used to monitor individuals critical of the government.
Even so, Park remains unfazed. "We can't tell where terrorist attacks will occur. Under such circumstances, we can't have strong economic development," she argued.

Ind vs Pak, Asia Cup 2016

Ind vs Pak, Asia Cup 2016: After bowlers show, Virat Kohli

drives India home

Virat Kohli combined with Yuvraj Singh to put India’s innings back on track, and help them gun down the modest total.

India recovered from three early jolts, inflicted by a devastating spell from Mohammad Amir, before notching up a five-wicket victory against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup T20 tournament.

Amir (3/18) rocked the Indian top-order with a fast and furious four-over spell but the small target of 84 was not good enough to stop the ‘Men In Blue’ who knocked off the runs with 27 balls to spare.

Indian bowlers had demolished the Pakistan batting line up with a superlative show as they bundled out the arch rivals for a paltry 83 in only 17.3 overs after opting to field.

But it required the calm and class of Virat Kohli (49) to take India home without further setbacks as his 68-run stand for the fourth wicket with Yuvraj Singh (14 not out) proved to be decisive.

KOHLI: Mohammad Amir is a world class bowler

Kohli’s 51-ball innings had seven boundaries and he looked cut above any batsman, who featured in today’s game.

This is their second win for India in the tournament and takes them a step closer to the final of the continental championship.

What was supposed to be a cakewalk turned out to be a brief nightmare for the Indians.

Rohit Sharma (0) and Ajinkya Rahane (0), replacing an injured Shikhar Dhawan, were beaten by sheer pace of Amir.

They found the late movement at ferocious speed too hot to handle. The result was a couple of plumb leg-befores.

Suresh Raina’s (1) problems against short ball is well documented and Amir started teasing him with deliveries that kicked up viciously from length. Raina cut a sorry figure with his hop, skip and jump technique and when Amir bowled full, the left-hander expecting a shirt ball only lobbed it to Wahab Riaz at mid-on. India were tottering at 8 for 3 at that stage.

However, Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi had no choice but to finish Amir’s spell, in order to get a couple of more wickets and stay in the game.

But it was Kohli, who has been Pakistan’s nemesis for some time now, showed why he is among the best in the world. He shielded Yuvraj from Amir by taking bulk of the strike. His footwork was precise and played close to the body.

In his final over Amir tried to change the tactic and Kohli promptly whipped towards square leg and cover drove him for two boundaries.

Once Amir’s spell was over, it was a formality for the Indians with Kohli gaining more confidence. Mohammed Irfan was deftly steered through third-man while Wahab was shown full face of the bat during the two imperious cover drives.

Yuvraj’s job was to chip in with the singles and stem the rot that set in due to top-order collapse and he did his job. By the time, Kohli was adjudged leg-before off Mohammed Sami’s bowling, India were eight runs short of victory. It was Dhoni, who cover drove Wahab to finish off the match.

Earlier, a collective effort from the Indians bowlers was backed brilliantly by the fielders as it became a ‘no-contest’ from the moment India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni opted to field on a pacer-friendly wicket.

The Indian bowlers made good use of the conditions and the fielding unit also put relentless pressure to effect two run-outs as it threw Pakistani innings in disarray.

Ashish Nehra (1/20) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/8) dealt initial blows while new sensation Hardik Pandya (3/8) kept up the pressure and recorded the best figures among the bowlers.

Such was the pressure on Pakistan, that spin twins Ravindra Jadeja (2/11) and Ravichandran Ashwin were brought in the 12th and 13th over respectively.

The only Pakistan player to cross the 10-run mark was wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed (25). This was their lowest score in a T20 against India as they managed only 8 boundaries.

Nehra struck with the very third delivery when he got one to kick up from length. Mohammed Hafeez (4), failing to read the extra bounce, attempted a square cut with little room to play the shot and Dhoni took an easy catch.

Left-handed Sharjeel Khan (7) pulled Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth over but was undone by the extra bounce and seam movement as he was caught by Ajinkya Rahane in the first slip.

In the fifth over of the innings and the third bowled by Nehra, India could have made it three had umpire SIS Saikat not bungled with an easy caught behind decision of Khurram Manzoor.

Manzoor tried to play an ambitious dilscoop but only managed a tickle to Dhoni but the Bangladeshi umpire ruled it not out. So much so that Dhoni had a word with umpire.

But as luck would have it, Manzoor (10) was run-out in the very next over in freakish manner. Striker Shoaib Malik tapped one towards short cover and non-striker Manzoor immediately responded by taking a few strides.

But an alert Virat Kohli sprinted and successfully aimed at the stumps at the non-striker’s end with Manzoor being hopelessly short of his crease.

Hardik Pandya made it 35 for four when Malik (4) chased a fullish delivery moving away, giving Dhoni his second catch of the match.

It didn’t take much time to make it 35 for five as Yuvraj, introduced in the attack before Ashwin and Jadeja, struck with his first ball. He flighted one that dipped and spun into Umar Akmal (3), who played a half-forward defensive stroke. It was a plumb leg before and umpire did not take much time to raise the dreaded finger.

Skipper Shahid Afridi (2) challenged India’s best fielder Jadeja going for a non-existent second run only to be run out by a fair two feet distance, leaving Pakistan gasping at 42 for six by the end of 8th over.

At the halfway stage, Pakistan were 47 for six and truly out of the game.

MSNBC host feuds with network

MSNBC host feuds with network over campaign coverage

XXX 2014 ESSENCE MUSIC FESTIVAL CONCERT - DAY 2 DEC 1724.JPG A ENT USA LA

Melissa Harris-Perry, a television personality on MSNBC, refused to host the show bearing her name Saturday, in a clash with the network that pre-empted her program repeatedly for presidential campaign coverage, according to news reports.
The show normally airs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. But she complained she hasn’t appeared for weeks because of coverage of primaries in South Carolina and New Hampshire.
In an email to co-workers obtained by CNN and the New York Times, Harris-Perry wrote that she was not sure whether to blame NBC News chairman Andrew Lack or MSNBC president Phil Griffin.
“Here is the reality: Our show was taken — without comment or discussion or notice — in the midst of an election season,” Harris-Perry wrote. “After four years of building an audience, developing a brand and developing trust with our viewers, we were effectively and utterly silenced.”
In a statement to CNN, NBC attributed the pre-emptions to the 2016 presidential campaign. Her show hasn’t been canceled, according to network spokesmen.
"In this exciting and unpredictable presidential primary season, many of our daytime programs have been temporarily upended by breaking political coverage, including M.H.P.," the statement said. "This reaction is really surprising, confusing and disappointing."

Battle brewing over transgender bathroom laws in state capitals

Battle brewing over transgender bathroom laws in state capitals

A fierce debate is playing out in state capitals throughout the country over which bathrooms and locker rooms transgender students in public schools should use.

South Dakota transgender bathroom laws
South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard faces a deadline next week to act on a bill passed by the state legislature that would require students to use bathrooms or locker rooms for the gender that corresponds with their “chromosomes and anatomy” at birth, what would be the first-of-its kind law in the country.
If Daugaard, a Republican, doesn’t sign or veto the bill by Tuesday, it automatically becomes law.
In all, more than two dozen similar bills have been filed in state legislatures across the country in the first two months of 2016, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.
“This is the new frontier in the battle over LGBT rights,” said Paul Brewer, political scientist at the University of Delaware who has studied public opinion on LGBT issues.
The so-called “bathroom law” fights have also been launched in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
In Oklahoma, legislation has been introduced that calls for withholding of state aid if a parent files a merited complaint that a school district has allowed a student to use a sex-segregated bathroom or changing facility that doesn’t align with the student’s gender at birth.
A proposal introduced last month in Virginia would require that local school boards develop policies that require restrooms and locker rooms be only used by “individuals whose anatomical sex matches” the gender designation of the facilities. Students violating the policy could face fines up to $50.
In Washington state, a bill made it out of a Senate committee last month that would reverse the state’s two-month old policy that allows transgender people to use bathrooms and locker rooms in public buildings that are consistent with their gender identity.
“What this amounts to is legislators saying we didn’t win the gay marriage fight, so let’s go after someone else,” said Ashley Joubert-Gaddis, director of operations at The Center for Equality, a Sioux Falls, S.D. advocacy group that is lobbying Daugaard to veto the proposed bathroom law.

An upset Tim Cahill has announced his surprise axing from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.
The Socceroos star signed a contract extension with the club just three months ago.
"I'm very sorry to announce that I have reached an agreement with Shanghai Shenhua to terminate my contract after being told that I'm not part of the new coach (Gregorio) Manzano's plans for the 2016 season having only just signed a new contract in November," he wrote on Instagram.
"This is very sad especially after what I feel I have helped to build in Shanghai Shenhua on and off the park.

"Just thinking about saying goodbye to my teammates and especially the amazing fans is heartbreaking.
